University of Maryland, College Park: Full-Time Lecturer in Italian
The Italian Program at the University of Maryland invites applications for a Full-
Time Lecturer in Italian to begin August 23 rd , 2021. This is a three-year
appointment, with possibility of renewal.
Successful candidates must possess fluency in Italian and English, and demonstrate
evidence of effective language teaching. The selected candidate will be expected to
teach three courses per semester in Italian language and culture, with an emphasis
on beginning, intermediate, and advanced level; coordinate the language program,
and advise students in the Italian Program.
M.A. in Italian is required. ABD or recent PhD in Italian Studies is preferable. Area of
specialization is open, including but not limited to theater and performance studies,
critical race studies, literature, history, and art history. Salary is commensurate to
experience and qualifications.
The College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland is involved in
several global education initiatives, so a demonstrated intellectual focus on the role
played by Italian culture in a globalized world is a bonus. Similarly, we welcome

curriculum that would open up the study of Italian language and culture to the
global questions of our times.
The successful candidate will bring energy and expertise to implement current
language acquisition pedagogies and lead study abroad programs, contributing to
the growth and development of the Italian Program.
