This session presents information on the creation, implementation and outcomes of the Italian/English K-6 dual-language program at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Glendale, CA. Topics discussed include: how the program at Franklin was started; how the curriculum was created, adapted to the Common Core and implemented; the stages that students go through when acquiring Italian as a second language; and how they develop bi-literacy and reach academic success in an Italian-English dual language program. This session will take a comprehensive look at what it takes to implement and maintain a successful K-6 Italian dual-language program.
