Teaching Italian Symposium/Workshop IX

Cari colleghi,

Join us at Montclair State’s University Hall Conference Center on Friday, Nov. 4th for Teaching Italian Symposium/Workshop IX!  A link to the online registration can be found here.

We are pleased to announce our exciting theme for 2016--EduMusica: Songs and Music in the Italian Curriculum. Please join our dynamic and experienced specialists in instructional methodology in foreign language: keynote speaker Giuseppe (Beppe) Cavatorta, The University of Arizona ; Lillyrose Veneziano Broccia, University of Pennsylvania; Ilaria Serra, Florida Atlantic University; and Mario Costa, La Guardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.  Serving once again as our outstanding Symposium Chair will be  Prof. Enza Antenos (Montclair State University).  As you may recall, participants will be awarded seven professional credits.  Further, the Coccia-Inserra Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Teaching of Italian (K-12) will be presented on this occasion.

A few words on our exceptional keynote speaker:  Giuseppe (Beppe) Cavatorta is Associate Professor at the University of Arizona where he also is the Director of the Italian Language Program. He has been Chief Reader for the Italian AP exam from 2012 to 2016, and he has been recently reappointed as a member of the Italian AP Exam Development Committee. Prof. Cavatorta also offers workshops for High School teachers as a consultant for the College Board. His research interests are varied and include second language acquisition, experimental writings, Italian Futurism and the neo-avant-garde, the Second World War in literature and film, and theory and practice of translation. The title of his keynote address is:      “…perché se questa storia fosse una canzone…”-- La canzone italiana e l’America: tra miracoli (didattici) & abusi (culturali).

Please ‘spread the word’ on our annual professional development event with your colleagues.  We would welcome adding them to our distribution list!
