Conference on teaching Italian Language and Culture Georgetown Univeristy
On October 24 2015, the Department of Italian at Georgetown University hosted its second biennial conference on teaching Italian Language and Culture. The conference, sponsored by the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington D.C, featured keynote speaker Prof. Nicoletta Marini-Maio (Dickinson College) whose address focused on promoting intercultural competence in students of the “selfie” generation: CALL Me++: Evolving Spaces and the Multilingual, Networked Self. The conference showcased a workshop on teaching with technology led by Prof. Elda Buonanno from Iona College, and also a roundtable with experts in the field of AP Italian. Over forty speakers from all over the United States and from Italy presented on topics ranging from MOOCS and hybrid language learning to incorporating music and the visual arts into the language and literature class. The conference was part of a series of events in Washington D.C. celebrating Italian Language Week
