On March 20, Consul General Natalia Quintavalle hosted an event with the Observatory for the Italian language of the TRI-State area led by its Chair, Comm. Sal Salibello and numerous personalities of the Italian-American community of New York, including some of the most popular and important members of the community, were in attendance.

The meeting was intended to raise community awareness of the importance of the Advanced Placement Course and Test for the promotion of the Italian language in the United States.

In her opening remarks to an audience of about 50 people, Consul General Quintavalle stressed that “we feel a special responsibility toward future generations of students in keeping our culture and language alive in the United States”. The AP may represent a key tool to achieve this goal.

Sal Salibello, president of the local Observatory for Italian language, recalled how Italian language and culture form an emotional bond to his roots, but also serve as essential support to his success as a businessman. He emphasized that the objective of promoting the AP must be the commitment of the entire community and, first and foremost, of its most illustrious representatives.

The other members of the Observatory, Dott. Carlo Davoli, Dott. Roberto Dolci, Ing. Berardo Paradiso, Dr. Joseph Sciame, and Dr. Anthony Tamburri, presented the situation of AP schools in the U.S. and, especially, in the TRI-STATE area, stressing that the goal of 2,500 exams for 2016 is reachable only by joint action of all the stakeholders: parents, teachers, and students.

Two high school teachers received great applause for sharing their commitment and their passion with the audience.

At the end of the meeting there were many questions from the audience, showing its interest in the topic. Many expressed their desire to be involved in more active and concrete forms in the implementation of the activities proposed in the strategic plan of the embassy: “Adopt a student, a teacher, a class”, monetary incentives to students, sponsorship of AP English Courses, scholarships for teachers.

Italian is the second choice as foreign language for about 2 million high school students. “We have a challenge in front of us: that of keeping our Italian language and culture alive in the American schools.” With the participation of all, the goal of 2,500 AP tests in 2016 is possible!

Lo scorso 20 Marzo presso il Consolato Generale d’Italia a New York si è svolto un incontro tra il Console Generale, Natalia Quintavalle, l’Osservatorio per la lingua italiana della TRI-State area guidato dal suo president, Comm. Sal Salibello e numerose personalità della comunità italiano/americana di New York. L’incontro era finalizzato a sensibilizzare la comunità dell’importanza dell’AP course e test per la promozione della lingua italiana negli USA. La Console Generale Quintavalle, nel suo intervento di benvenuto di fronte ad una platea di circa 50 persone, tra le quali alcuni dei più conosciuti ed importanti membri della comunità, ha sottolineato che  “we feel a special responsibility toward future generations of students in keeping our culture and language alive in the United States” e che l’AP può rappresentare lo strumento fondamentale per raggiungere questo obiettivo.  Il Comm. Salibello, presidente del local Observatory for Italian language, ha voluto ricordare come la lingua e la cultura italiana non hanno rappresentato per lui solamente un legame affettivo ma anche un sostegno essenziale per il suo successo come uomo d’affari e ha voluto sottolineare l’obiettivo della promozione dell’AP deve essere l’impegno di tutta la comunità e in primo luogo dei suoi più illustri e motivati rappresentanti. I successivi interventi dei componenti dell’osservatorio, Carlo Davoli, Berardo Paradiso, Joseph Sciame, Anthony Tamburri and Roberto Dolci, hanno presentato la situazione dell’AP nelle scuole degli USA e in particolare nella TRI-STATE area sottolineando come l’obiettivo di 2.500 esami sostenuti per il 2016 sia raggiungibile solo con l’intervento congiunto di tutti gli attori: genitori, insegnanti, studenti e la comunità al suo completo. Particolarmente significativi sono stati gli interventi di due docenti di High School che hanno condiviso il loro impegno e la loro passione con la platea. Al termine dell’incontro molte sono state le domande del pubblico, che ha dimostrato di essere molto sensibile all’argomento. Molti dei presenti hanno manifestato il loro interesse ad essere coinvolti in forme più attive e concrete alla realizzazione delle attività proposte dal piano strategico dell’ambasciata: “adopt a student, a teacher, a class”, monetary incentives to students, sponsorship of AP Italian Courses, scholarships for teachers.
