Language and culture summer programs at the University of Calabria
The De Rada Italian Institute is proud to announce two new language and culture programs this summer at the University of Calabria in Italy during the July 5-28 section (application deadline: May 3, 2014).
1) A program for high school students who wish to begin studying the Italian language and culture and for students who wish to prepare themselves for the AATI National Italian High School Contest Examination, SAT II, and the AP Language and Culture Course/Exam.
This program will begin on July 5 and end on July 28, 2014. The cost of the program is $3,500 which includes board and tuition for 2 courses (6 credits/90 contact hours) and also transportation, hotel, and board for the following activities/excursions:
· transfer to/from Fiumicino Airport in Rome (FCO)
· Rome/Vatican City
· Amalfi Coast
· Pompei
· Frascati
· Magna Grecia and Calabria Bizantina (Sibari, Amendolara, Trebisacce, Roseto, Albidona)
· Cosenza
· Tropea
· Reggio Calabria (with visit of the Museo Archeologico and its Bronzi di Riace)
*It does not include airfare.
2) A 9-days Professional Development Workshop (July 18-26) for middle and high school teachers of Italian. The workshop will focus on strategies and techniques that will help students become successful in the language and culture as well as prepare them for the AATI National Italian High School Contest Examination, SAT II, and the AP Language and Culture Course/Exam. Participants will examine best practices to empower students, create units and formative and summative assessments for their students, and exchange ideas.
The cost of the Workshop includes 35 contact hours, orientation, single room with private bath+AC and board at Università della Calabria, 1 welcome dinner, 1 excursion to the beach, a guided tour of Cosenza, Lamezia Terme Airport pick up/return service:
Option A: $1500 (with breakfast and dinner)
Option B: $1550 (with lunch and dinner)
Teachers participating in the workshop who will organize a small group of students for one of our summer sections, will receive a discount of 40% and will pay only $900 (option A) or $930 (option B).
The courses and workshop will be conducted by the distinguished teacher Bruna Petrarca Boyle, College Board Consultant, by Michelangelo La Luna, Associate Professor of the University of Rhode Island and by other American/Italian instructors.
